Sussex Flying Club is situated on the first floor of the main terminal building and has an incredible panoramic view over the whole airport. Besides the beautiful vista this provides an advantage to students, as they can observe movements and operations taking place on the taxiways and runways. Students are also able to observe aircraft taking off and landing, which assists their understanding of concepts explained in the classrooms.
Sussex Flying Club has a range of purpose-designed classrooms and briefing areas. Computer and fax machines provide constant updates on weather and operational information throughout the day. The operations area also contains maps, charts and other aeronautical information. This information is available to student pilots and the large number of club members who have obtained their Licences and are flying in the local area or taking their friends to other airfields. Flying is a very sociable and friendly activity, other members will be keen to help and to share their experiences with you whilst you are training.
A further classroom and briefing room is used for examinations and this also contains a radio training simulator. Sussex Flying Club is a CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) approved Radio Licence testing facility, so this separate area is used extensively. Adjacent to this is a PC simulator (Elite) which is used for Instrument flying training. This enables students to practice instrument flying as well as Radio Navigation and practice instrument approaches. It is of great benefit for teaching basic and advanced instrument flying skills. This equipment is in its own Simulator Room which also has specialised lighting.
We are pleased to offer students and members free tea and coffee, which are provided from our own kitchen. However, if you feel like something more, the excellent Airport Restaurant is immediately below us on the ground floor.
Sussex Flying Club has excellent facilities in an first-class location to meet all of your training requirements.
